A MAN who bit and ripped off part of the left ear of his girlfriend's husband was sentenced to seven years' corrective training and eight strokes of the cane on Monday.

Air-conditioning technician Anpazhakan Raghavan, 42, who will not be eligible for early release, had admitted to grievously hurting Mr Ramachandran Sitarencan, 40, at his Choa Chu Kang home on June 18 last year. He also pleaded guilty to having a chopper outside a pub at Boat Quay last Nov 13.

A district court heard that Anpazhakan and his girlfriend, Ms Magesh Eyamalai, 28, were drunk when he took her home at about 6.25am that day.

The victim, who was facing divorce proceedings with his wife, berated him for stepping into his home. A dispute arose and the two men threw punches at each other. In the midst of the scuffle, the victim fell to the ground when Ms Magesh tried to restrain him from hitting her boyfriend. Anpazhakan then pounced ono the victim and used his mouth to bite and rip off part of his left ear.

Subsequently, the victim underwent a skin graft and recontouring of the left pinna. He was given 16 days medical leave.

Anpazhakan has convictions for armed robbery, drug consumption, failing to report for urine tests and burglary.
